Saint Paul Illaire - he is German with French name, 'Illaire', his parents are said to have been Religious refugees (Protestants) from France 1700s and found their Refugee in Prussia when it was a German territory. He was born in German (Berlin) Jan, 12 1860 and died in Dec, 12 1940. In 1891, German Reich took over administration of Great German East Africa and Saint Paul Illaire became the District Official of Tanga, he ran the office from 1891 - 1910.His residence is now kn own as "PALM COURT HOTEL" in Tanga. During his stay in Tanga, he did some botanic researches and discovered one of the most prominent beautiful flower in the rich humus of Usambara mountains in Lushoto. He named the flower as 'Usambara violate' or 'African violate'. He discovered the flower in 1893.
